MAGNETIC SENSOR TYPES AVAILABLE FROM SENSOR

Single Channel Gear Tooth Speed Sensors (DS): Our single channel digital magnetic speed sensors use Hall Effect sensor technology to produce a digital output as gear teeth pass by the sensor. These Hall Effect sensors require proper alignment between the sensor and the gear and will produce one pulse per each gear tooth. Magnetic speed sensors (often called gear tooth sensors) are available in plastic, aluminum, and steel housings, with multiple electrical options and numerous connection options.

Hall Switch Sensors and Magneto Resistive Switch Sensors (HS): Our Hall Switch sensors are available to detect one or either pole of a passing magnet to create a digital pulse. We offer multiple Hall Effect sensors that will trigger at different gauss levels off one or either magnetic poles. Also known as magnetic proximity switches and magnetic pickups, these Hall Effect switches can be used to determine linear and rotational speed and direction as well as position. Standard hall switches are triggered by the south pole of a magnet, whereas Magneto-Resistive and either pole Hall switch sensors can trigger from the north or south poles of a magnet. Programmable Hall Switch sensors are available for precision custom requirements. Hall switch sensors are available in plastic, aluminum, and steel housings, with multiple electrical options and numerous connection options.

Single Channel Target Tracker Gear Tooth Sensors (DSO): Our single channel target sensors use Hall Effect technology to produce a digital pulse in the presence of metal. Unlike our DS sensors, these Hall Effect sensors do not require rotational alignment, and can be used to determine speed on bolt heads, holes in gears, and non standard gears as well as conventional gears. Target tracker sensors are available in plastic, aluminum, and steel housings, with multiple electrical options and numerous connection options.

Quadrature 2 Channel Gear Tooth Sensors (DQ): Our 2 channel quadrature sensors provide two out of phase digital speed signals, which can be used to determine direction of rotation. Also known as bi-directional or dual channel Hall Effect speed sensors, we offer options for both standard pitch gears as well as for non-standard steel targets. These sensors have multiple internal sensing elements, which are spaced according to the gear pitch of the target. Quadrature sensors are available in plastic, aluminum, and steel housings, with multiple electrical options and numerous connection options.

Speed Direction Gear Tooth Sensors (SD): Our speed direction sensors use Hall Effect technology to produce two outputs. One output provides a digital pulse for each gear tooth, the other output is a high or low voltage output dependent on the direction of rotation. These Hall Effect sensors require proper alignment to the target and offer options for both standard pitch gears as well as for non-standard targets. Speed direction sensors are available in plastic, aluminum, and steel housings, with multiple electrical options and numerous connection options.

Speed Direction Quad Gear Tooth Sensors (SDQ): Our 3 output quadrature sensors use Hall Effect technology to produce two speed outputs along with a direction output.

Speed and Direction Magnet Sensors (HCD): Our speed and direction magnet sensors are Hall Effect and Magneto Resistive sensors that provide two outputs. One output will be a digital pulse for each occurrence of a magnetic pole; the other output is a high or low voltage output dependent on the direction of rotation. Magnet speed and direction sensors are available in plastic, aluminum, and steel housings, with multiple electrical options and numerous connection options. We also offer a variety of magnets for targets raw, potted, or mounted into shaft collars as targets for our speed and direction Hall Effect sensors.

Dual Output Hall Switch Sensors (DHS): Our dual output hall switch sensors provide a digital pulse on one channel when the south pole of a magnet is present. A second channel provides a digital output on the presence of a north pole magnet. Dual output Hall switches are available in plastic, aluminum, and steel housings, with multiple electrical options and numerous connection options. We also offer a variety of magnets for targets raw, potted, or mounted into shaft collars as targets with our Dual Output Hall Switch Sensors.

Hall Latch Sensors (HL): Our Hall latch sensors use Hall Effect technology to switch states when a magnetic field is present. A South Pole Field will turn the output on, and a North Pole field will turn the output off. For Hall Latch sensors, the output state is maintained until an opposite field is introduced. These Hall Effect sensors are ideal for reading the speed of a ring magnet (magnet wheel). Hall Latch sensors are available in plastic, aluminum, and steel housings, with multiple electrical options and numerous connection options. We also offer a variety of magnets for targets raw, potted, or mounted into shaft collars as targets for our hall effect latch sensors.

Shot Rod Sensors (SR): Our Shot Rod sensors are used in the die cast industry for the detection of shot rod position and speed sensing. Available for 20 TPI, 10TPI, 2MM AND 1MM shot rods. Shot rod sensors are available in Stainless Steel housings with multiple connection options.

Digital Ferrous Metal Detection Sensors (DP): Our digital output ferrous metal detection sensors detect the presence or position of ferrous metal objects and provide a digital output signal that switches on when the target is within the programmed range for the 275VPD for sensors. For all other DP sensors, when an analog output voltage (proportional to target deflection) reaches 2 Volts the digital output will switch on. These sensors have an adjustable potentiometer, which allows the customer to adjust the sensitivity and trigger point of the digital output proximity sensor.

Analog Ferrous Metal Position Sensors (AP): Our analog output proximity sensors provide a voltage that increases with the approach of a ferrous metal target. Our 275VPA sensors can provide a 0-5 volt output, with low and high values programmed to the application. All other AP sensors will produce a proportional output voltage from 0 volts to slightly less than the input voltage as a ferrous target approaches. For maximum resolution select the model that will provide an output at the farthest required gap for the application. These sensors have an adjustable potentiometer, which allows the customer to adjust the base output voltage for the analog output proximity sensor.

Variable Reluctance Sensors (VR): Our variable reluctance sensors are passive speed sensors that generate voltage as gear teeth rotate by the face of the sensor. The sensor output voltage is a sinusoidal wave with an amplitude and frequency that is dependent on the target attributes, air gap, and rotational speed of a gear. These sensors do not require any input voltage, and are found to be advantageous over Hall Effect sensors in some applications for this reason. Variable reluctance sensors are available in 3/8", M12, and 5/8" threaded stainless steel housings with both blind and exposed pole pieces. In addition there are standard and high output versions available in each size, along with a variety of connections available with our variable reluctance sensors.

Analog Hall Sensors (AH): Our analog hall sensors use Hall Effect technology to produce an analog output that increases with magnetic field strength. These analog hall sensors produce a linear output as a magnet passes from one pole to the other. For an application where one pole of a magnet directly approaches the face of a sensor, the signal will increase with the approach of a magnet, however this output will not be linear. These sensors are available in ratiometric and regulated versions. Programmable options are available for precise measurements in specific applications. These sensors are useful for resolving the height or position of external magnets, the amplitude of current traveling down a conductor, and the magnitude of field present in an electro-coil. Analog hall sensors are available in plastic, aluminum, and steel housings, with multiple electrical options and numerous connection options. We also offer a variety of magnets for targets raw, potted, or mounted into shaft collars as targets for our analog output Hall Effect sensors.

Reed Switch Sensors (RS): Our reed switch sensors are passive devices that will switch states with the approach of a magnetic field (either pole). Also known as magnetic proximity switches and magnetic pickups, these sensors can be used to determine the position of a magnet, or provide digital pulses for counting or speed measurement with a ring magnet as a target. Normally open and normally closed switches are available in a variety of sensitivities. Reed switch sensors are available in plastic, aluminum, and steel housings, with multiple electrical options and numerous connection options. We also offer a variety of magnets for targets raw, potted, or mounted into shaft collars as targets for reed switch sensors.

Analog Position Sensing Systems (APSS): Our Analog Position Sensing Systems consist of a programmed sensor and a potted magnet. These sensors can be used to determine linear translation, alignment offset, or proximity. The sensors provide a linear output when the target translates across the sensor at a constant gap. For more information, click the link, or contact us to determine how the APSS can be used in your application.

Coded Alignment Sensing Systems (CASS): Our Coded Alignment Sensing Systems, also known as tamper proof or indefeatable Hall switches, consist of a multiple element Hall Effect Sensor paired with a multiple magnet target. Extremely difficult to defeat, these systems allow for multiple sensor verification of alignment, enclosed in one cost effective package. The single output will only turn on when all sensing elements see the appropriate magnetic field. These sensors cannot be fooled without recreating each magnetic field in the appropriate location. These sensing systems are built into durable molded housings and the sensor is available with a variety of connection options. Each item includes the sensor and target. Click the link to see our options, or contact us if you require a custom coded alignment solution.

Other Magnetic Sensor Types (XX): In addition to all the sensor types above, Sensor Solutions has also developed other custom magnetic sensors including Giant Magneto Resistive switches and latches (GMR), Analog Output Giant Magneto Resistive sensors, Analog Gear Tooth Sensors, Angular Position Sensors, and others. If you have unique magnetic sensing needs, contact our Engineering department to discuss how we can provide the right sensor for your application.

Sensor targets, sensor mating cables, sensor meters, and sensor mounting brackets: We offer magnets, raw, marked, or potted in threaded housings or shaft collars as targets for our Hall Effect sensors as well as steel gears for our speed, speed/direction, and Quadrature magnetic sensors. Mating cables and connectors are available in multiple lengths for all of our catalog sensors and we also offer several simple right angle brackets for mounting magnetic sensors. Tachometers, speed switches, frequency to analog converters, and other sensor controllers are also available, configured to work with many of our magnetic sensors.
