Sensors for Counting With Magnets
By adding one or more magnets to a target, Hall Effect switches can be used to count rotations, number of strokes, or other linear movement.
Single Channel Hall switches can be used in applications where the direction of movement does not matter.
For detecting a directional count, Sensor Solutions offers two styles of digital Hall Effect sensors.
- Quadrature sensors have two out of phase outputs where direction is determined by comparing which output detects the magnet first.
- Count and Direction Sensors provide one pulsing output, and a second direction output that is in the high state when the magnet passes in one direction, and low when the magnet passes in the opposite direction.
When pairing a Quadrature or Count and Direction Magnet sensor with a magnet wheel or with other targets where magnet poles are close together, custom internal chip spacing may be required. Contact our Sales Department for more information.
A large variety of target magnet options are available in our Accessory Catalog
