Hall Effect Sensors for Measuring Gears to Determine Speed and Direction
Direction of Rotation and the speed of rotating sensors can be determined using two different methods.
- Speed and Direction Sensors output speed pulses on one channel, and a second channel switches between high and low dependent on the direction of rotation.
- Quadrature output sensors output two speed pulse channels. These signals are out of phase so that the meter or controller can resolve which output detects a tooth first.
For more information selecting or designing gears for speed and direction sensing, or to learn more about our quadrature and our speed detection sensors such as why we request the target pitch, check our Application Notes.
