Sensors Detecting Magnets to Measure Speed and Direction
To resolve speed and the direction of movement using magnets there are two different types of sensors available.
- Quadrature Hall Switches use two side by side sensing elements that output two sets of square wave pulses. When properly aligned to the direction of the movement direction is resolved by determining which sensing element detects the magnet first
- Speed and Direction Hall Switches also use two internal sensing elements. Speed is output on Channel A. Direction is resolved internally and Channel B will output either a High or Low voltage dependent on the direction of movement.
Quadrature or Speed and Direction Hall sensors targeting a magnet wheel or alternating pole targets such as multi-pole magnet tape may require custom spacing of the sensing elements. Contact our Sales Department for more information.
Target magnets are available in our Accessory Catalog.
