Detecting Position Using Ferrous Objects
To detect when an object is in a specific position in either an application with rotational or linear movement, a sensor can be mounted to detect when either a ferrous protrusion such as a bolt head or steel plate is lined up with the sensor face.
For tracking a rotational position, the 37ADQO target tracker sensors can be paired with a counter detecting ferrous targets around a drum or shaft.
Measuring the position of a linear movement can be accomplished with either Analog or Digital Ferrous Metal Detection sensors. Analog metal sensors will provide a signal that increases as the steel target approaches. Digital metal sensors will detect when the ferrous target reaches a specific gap from the sensor face.
For more information about our sensors, detecting ferrous steel, and position monitoring, see our Application Notes.
