Count Tracking of Rack Gear Teeth
Counting the passing teeth of a rack gear can resolve the position of a rack gear and any object being moved along with the rack gear.
- Applications where the number of teeth passing are counted regardless of direction of movement can be detected with Single Channel Gear Tooth Sensors.
- For up/down counting relative the direction of motion Quadrature and Speed and Direction Sensors provide either a second out of phase output or a high/low direction of output.
NOTE: Target tracking sensing elements and internal direction outputs may not detect a change in direction until the second gear tooth passes. For accurate count in applications where the movement direction changes frequently type “-37ADQ-“ into the Search within these results (can this just be a click that automatically applies that filter instead of an instruction?) box .
To learn more about why we request the target pitch for two channel sensors, information on selecting and designing custom gears, and other information about magnetic sensors and technologies, see our Application Notes.
Fully programmed counters that are compatible with Sensor Solutions sensors can be found on this page.
