Speed Sensors for Detecting Multi-Pole Magnet Tape
Digital Hall Effect latching speed sensors provide an output that switches on when detecting a magnetic South Pole, and then turn off when they detect a magnetic North Pole.
When these sensors are placed in front of a piece of alternating pole magnetic tape, also referred to as a magnetic scale, they produce a square wave output that can be connected to a tachometer to measure speed. Quadrature and Speed/Direction versions of these latching Hall Effect sensors provide two outputs so that you can resolve both speed of the target and the direction of movement.
4 pole per inch magnetic tape is available in our Accessory Catalog.
